Provo pudore nei confronti degli altri, sopratutto quando vivono esperienze tanto estreme.
Ma non si diventa cinici. Non ci si abitua.
Al contrario, credo si diventi sempre più sensibili al dolore altrui e forse, in un certo senso, diventa sempre più difficile continuare, perché con il tempo, l’intensità e il peso delle domande che ci si pone, il valore di quel che si vive diventa più profondo, complesso, misterioso.”

“It isn’t the camera itself that helps you to live through those moments. It’s the sense of responsibility about our role, the awareness of being there with the duty to document and bear witness. This gives meaning to our presence in the face of the tragic nature of an event such as death or suffering. I always try to tackle those moments giving the best of myself. I feel consideration and respect for others, especially when the experiences they are going through are so extreme.
But one doesn’t become cynical. One doesn’t get used to it.
On the contrary, I think one becomes increasingly sensitive to the pain of others and perhaps, in a certain sense, it becomes increasingly difficult to carry on, because with time, the intensity and the burden of the questions one asks oneself, the value of what one experiences become deeper, more complex, more mysterious.”
